SOLUTION
Central Baptist Church, located in Rockville, Maryland, transformed its commitment to sustainability into tangible action. By harnessing the power of solar energy, Central Baptist Church not only reduced its environmental footprint but also saved significantly on electricity costs.
By implementing a 148.42 kW community solar system, the church and its subscribers stand to achieve significant long-term financial savings through community solar subscriber discount credits. The church bears no capital costs and will receive earnings from a roof lease payment throughout the project's lifespan. This initiative not only fosters economic benefits but also promotes sustainable practices within the community.
Prominent subscribers include The Jewish Council for the Aging, Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church, and the Town of Washington Grove's common area utility meters. These subscribers are given the opportunity to embrace sustainability by participating in Maryland’s community solar program.
“Here at Central, we value the principle of stewardship. This is another way in which our church is able to exercise stewardship of resources and the environment. It has been exciting to see this project move into operation. The professionalism of the entire team really made it come together. We are looking forward to many years of strong partnership with DHD and Skyview.”
Matthew Arney
Pastor, Central Baptist Church
Central Baptist Church's solution involves the installation of a 148.42 kW community solar system on its roof. This initiative provides an accessible way for the church and other members of the community to participate in clean energy production.
The Montgomery County Green Bank provided a direct loan to Skyview Ventures, Davis Hill Development’s (DHD’s) parent company. This direct loan, coupled with the community solar roof lease agreement between Skyview Ventures and Central Baptist Church, ensures that the church can embrace solar energy without the need for any upfront capital investment.
